    Outside My Window ~ June 26, 2016

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW…is a relatively warm day.  Current temperature is 76° with 55% humidity. It is a bit muggy outside which is why I am inside.  It would probably be a good beach day though.  I haven’t been to the beach in a while though….I can’t tolerate the heat and humidity like I once could….or maybe I don’t want to tolerate the heat and humidity any more.  It sure does wear me down a lot faster since I have gotten older.  Along with the heat we have blue skies, sunshine and some puffy clouds here and there.  I don’t believe there is a chance for rain today – or tomorrow…

    Outside My Window ~ 9.9.2013

Outside my window…is a Monday rather than a Sunday so I have Williamsburg in my view.  Currently we are at 83°F with mostly cloudy skies.  The forecast for the week looks very much the same as today…. mostly sunshine and temperatures warming up to the low 90’s by mid-week.  It has been quite dry, I believe the last measurable rainfall was on August 29th.  I wouldn’t mind a few days of a rain…the soaking variety would be welcome…and cooler temperatures.  I could possibly get my wish this Saturday for cooler with a forecast of 72°F for the high and a low of 58°F.  I’m very ready for fall…summer and the heat needs to go away. I…

    Charlotte, North Carolina

Yesterday you learned about a train…. …that would take us to the center of the city. The wish to see downtown Charlotte was still a wish as I sat at the kitchen table with Nina our first morning in South Carolina…until she mentioned the train to the city.  I knew the wish could become a reality, so we made a plan.  We would travel to the city on Sunday to explore…and to photograph.  We knew there was a possibility places could be closed, but there would fewer people and cars on Sunday. While their highways are still crowded with cars during peak times, Charlotte is also building a brilliant transit system using a combination of light rail and bus service.  We were able to park…

The Train That Made Wishes Come True

Each time we have visited my parents in South Carolina, my youngest has asked if we could go into downtown Charlotte, North Carolina ~ right over the border from my parents house.  Traffic in an extra large city can be crazy if you know where you are going…but in a strange city, not a adventure I was anxious to take.  Enter the Blue Line for the Lynx light rail system…and a girl’s wish can come true.  🙂

    Shawboro, North Carolina

A few photographs from the little town I visited a few weeks ago. I spent lazy summer days in this little town many, many years ago. The old post office….I remember when this was brand new. The new one is next door ~ but the building wasn’t near as interesting as this one.  🙂 Older homes dot the country side….some small…. ….some not so small…. …and some have seen better days. Wide open fields of green…and yellow… …and some were just plain yellow… A huge field of buttercups… …it can make you smile….and remind you of days gone by.

    Biltmore House

During my vacation last month, I had the chance to visit the Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina.  I shared this view of the house with you when I posted about the Blue Ridge Parkway a few days ago.  While it may appear that we are quite close to the house, we are actually quite far away.   Yes, it is that  large! The Biltmore House is the largest privately owned home in the United States at 175,000 square feet with 250 rooms….and it is a wonder to behold!     One of the first of many intense storms in early April blew through Asheville the night before.  We were awaken in the wee hours with rain, thunder and howling…

    Blue Ridge Parkway

I had the opportunity to travel into the Blue Ridge Mountains via the Blue Ridge Parkway during my vacation last month.  We left my parents home in Catawba, South Carolina and headed west to the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway just outside of Brevard, North Carolina.  Our first destination….Looking Glass Falls.   I featured a photograph of the falls last week with my daughter and her friend…the above photograph was another favorite of mine.    As I took my photographs, the girls took the time to take their own as well. After we enjoyed our time at the falls, we headed up the byway to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  This parkway has always been a favorite of mine….riding the tops…
