Outside My Window ~ 6.17.2012
Outside my window…is the closing hours on the final Sunday for Spring 2012. According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac the Summer Solstice will occur on June 20, 2012 at 7:09 p.m.. Next week the view will change outside my window…summer is here. It is almost 6:00 in the evening in Hampton Roads….the sky is mostly cloudy but there are snippets of blue sky and sunshine…and the temperature right now is about 70°F. There is very little chance of rain tonight and for the most part the clouds that are out right now are white and fluffy. It has been a mild and breezy weekend….my wind chimes sang plenty of songs…

Outside My Window ~ 6.10.2012
Outside my window…was a bright, sunshiny day…..blue skies, not a cloud in sight but as I look out now, looks like storm clouds may be building. At almost 4:00 in the afternoon, we are at 88°F with a little over 40% humidity….not very high for this region. I’m not sure if the clouds will amount to anything, the forecast calls for partly cloudy. I have seen it pour rain…for a very long time…when there was only a 30% chance of rain however. Pop’s Milestone
On November 5th of last year, my stepfather went into the kitchen for a snack. Unfortunately that snack attack wasn’t without a price….while in the kitchen he lost his balance, fell and fractured his hip. He was taken to the hospital but the fix wasn’t as simple as one would think. Pop was diagnosed with emphysema several years and he had been getting progressively worse this last year….surgery to replace the hip was out of the question, there was no way he would survive being put under. It was fortunate they were able to repair the fracture however the trauma of the fall, being hospitalized and staying in rehab a…

Outside My Window ~ 11.20.2011
Outside my window…is the close of another weekend….the weekend before Thanksgiving. You wouldn’t know it was this late in November if you were to judge by the weather alone. Today was beautiful….71°F with sunshine and blue skies. We are currently at 64°F at 9:30 this evening with a chance for rain later tonight through Wednesday…..a small chance. Of course I have seen some pretty hard rains when we had a small chance for rain so I guess we will have to wait and see what comes. Thanksgiving day is forecast to be sunny with highs in the mid 50’s. I am thinking about…my list of things to pick up and…

Outside My Window ~ 8.14.11
Outside my window…is what appears to be a foggy afternoon. I say “appears” is because it is not fog but smoke from the Great Dismal Swamp fire in Suffolk, Virginia. The fire continues to burn despite our rain yesterday afternoon and evening. We will need quite a bit more rainfall to help this fire…some firefighters say it may take a tropical storm to put it out. The fire is not fully contained but currently the smoldering peat moss is creating the obvious problems. Peat moss causes the smoke and is near to impossible to put out. The fire is smoldering in approximately 6 feet of organic soil in some areas near the…

This image was taken 16 years ago today…my oldest daughter and her cousin. His family was visiting from out of town and we had just eaten breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Her cousin just celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday. It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago when this photograph was taken… …time flies much too quickly as you watch your children grow.
