Outside My Window

Outside My Window ~ 10.7.2012

Outside my window…is what I would consider a typical fall day in Southeast Virginia.  This morning started out cloudy and cool at 54°F….the rain came about 10:30 this morning and at times it was heavy with some thunder and lightening.   Right now, at 2:30 this afternoon, we are at 57°F {our forecast high for the day} and cloudy.  Winds are from the north at about 10 mph and the humidity is 83%.   We have another chance for scattered thunderstorms early this evening and shower after dark.  Our forecast low for this evening is 48°F….now that is what I’m talking about.  🙂  I’m so ready for cooler weather, especially after we had a week of very high 70’s and low to mid 80° days.  We will stay in the upper 50’s tomorrow with another chance for rain and then edge toward the mid 60’s by Tuesday.  Wednesday and this coming Sunday appear to be our warmest days for the next ten days with a forecast of sunshine and high around 75°F however the nights will continue to be cool.  It looks like we dodged the bullet again this year as far as hurricanes however we have the nor’easter season to look forward to.  If you recall, they tend to hang around longer than hurricanes and dump quite a bit of rain in the process…they can create quite a bit of damage in their own right and be just as nasty and wet.

I am thinking…I enjoy making home made.  I made some biscuits this morning and enjoyed them with some home made fig preserves Nina gave us during our last visit to South Carolina.  I can remember when I visited my grandparents years ago there was always home made something to enjoy.  It was the way they grew up…it was their way of life.  As the years passed, convenience became a way of life for most people and making it yourself happened less often ~ sometimes out of necessity and lack of time.  I’m thinking I like home made biscuits better than canned….I love home made preserves better than mass produced….I love home made bread better than store bought….I like fresh vegetables that have been canned rather than opening a can of vegetables.  I’m thinking I need to have more home made in my life.  🙂

I am glad…that Turbo is a walking fool….this dog loves to walk….and walk….and walk….and walk.  And because he is a walking fool, he needs to be walked frequently which in turns gets me out of the chair and moving around which in turns makes for clothes that fit better.  Not to mention better health.  We have even incorporated early morning walks into our schedule….not sure how excited I will be about those when it gets cold outside, but right now it is working.

From my kitchen…was home made biscuits this morning ~ second time and they came out very nice I must say….time for coffee each morning again ~ hazelnut cream is my preferred choice nowadays….smoothies made with Naked’s mighty mango juice, a little ice and a banana = yum!.

I am hoping…if it must rain tomorrow, it doesn’t rain on my way to or from work….all the other times in between, just not during driving time.

I am hearing…the ticking of my many clocks….the movie “Quarantine” on television ~ and might I add, this movie is creeping me out…crazed zombies in the dark.  It is one of those movies that is filmed from the perspective of a news camera…some people don’t care for these types of movies because they don’t like the constant camera movement. I think it adds a bit more realism to it and the fact that most of the movie was filmed in the dark…thus the creep factor.

A recap of last week…includes the October free desktop calendar and Wordless Wednesday.

Plans for the week include…working from home on Tuesday….going to see the Dalai Lama at William and Mary Hall on Wednesday….participating in Scott Kelby’s 5th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk on Saturday.  For the Dalai Lama visit, they are prohibiting cameras with a lens longer than 4 inches….it looks like I’m going to have to take my 85mm.  I still think I can get some decent photographs….and if I get a good seat, I can get some excellent photographs.  🙂

One of life’s little pleasures…the opportunity to attend a once in a lifetime event.

From my camera…the little one this time….some iphon-ie images for you today.  I’m still trying to get accustomed to using the camera so I practiced this morning.  This collage is from my walk this morning with Turbo…top image is ducks in the canal we walk beside when Turbo goes squirrel hunting ~ bottom left: a fungus among us; bottom middle: knock off roses next to the mirrored windows on a bank building; bottom right: acorns on the street ~ how would you like to park your car under that tree!  😯

Funny you say Fungus Among Us. Me too!
We had such a cold weekend I am glad I was at a scrapbooking retreat and could stay in the hotel the whole time until It warmed up today! We didn’t get the snow here in Brighton but some places did. We had 2 nights of hard freeze so hopefully it will kill off some of this ‘stuff’ that is making all of us miserable.
    Thanks again for the calendar!

Our weekend started out hot and ended up cool…I liked the cooler day better. We haven’t had a hard freeze yet….looking forward to it actually so it will help kill off the mosquitos and ragweed! 🙂 Very welcome for the calendar ~ I’m so happy you like them.
